1916

Fianna Fáil will celebrate the centenary of the 1916 Rising next year.
As a Republican Party inspired by the Leaders of the Rising and founded on the ideals of the Proclamation, detailed plans are being prepared to mark this momentous occasion in Irish history.
The Party has established a Commemoration Committee/Coiste 1916 with Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív as chair. This Committee would like you to submit ideas as to how best the Party should commemorate the 1916 Rising in 2015 and 2016.
The Committee is also seeking to collect a written history our members may have of their relatives who fought in the 1916 Rising and the subsequent War of Independence. It is intended that this history will be submitted by Fianna Fáil to the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht as an important historical collection relating to the Rising.
Hopefully each constituency will have its own Commemoration Committee in order to ensure that events are organized throughout the country to celebrate the significance of the 1916 Rising. We need to ensure that our organisation is to the fore in the commemoration of the centenary of the Rising.
If you have a suggestion that you would like to make regarding commemoration plans or have details of relatives who partook in the Rising, please submit these to me or to the Committee at:
Coiste 1916,
Áras de Valera,
65/66 Lower Mount Street,
Dublin 2.
The Committee is also asking all CDCs to establish their own Commemoration Committee in order to ensure that events are organised throughout the country to celebrate the significance of the 1916 Rising.
Fianna Fáil will soon be publishing further details surrounding plans to celebrate the 1916 Rising on our website www.fiannafail.ie. Commemoration ideas and relatives’ information may also be submitted on this site.
I look forward to receiving your suggestions and thank you as always. Deirdre Heney.
